The Alan & Priscilla Oppenheimer Foundation is a private operating foundation based in Ashland, OR.
The foundation provides resources and expertise to facilitate scientific research and education, specializing in the fields of genetics, molecular biology, and computer science. They love to write, conduct research, bring people together, and reveal the amazing work of scientists.
Opportunity
We look for opportunities where people, time, and funds are in short supply. Donating our expertise and time greatly leverages our available funds and has been a successful model for our foundation.
Projects
As a private operating foundation, we tend to be directly involved in the projects we take on, donating services and expertise rather than being strictly a funding resource.
TEAMWORK
By developing long-term relationships with our partners, we are able to provide substantial help that might not otherwise be available through more traditional channels.
Our Work
We started working with the Harvard Personal Genome Project (PGP) in 2007, and provided one of the project’s first full genome sequences. Since then, we have worked in a liaison capacity between participants and scientists, performed outreach, written a study guide, and facilitated meetings, as well as helped plan, sponsor, and run events.
In 2018, we sponsored the first PGP Hackathon and have also hosted a number of hackathons at Southern Oregon University.
In addition, we are working with the NIH All of Us program with their goal of involving one million people across the U.S. to help build one of the most diverse health databases in history.
We also work locally in Ashland, Oregon with our wonderful ScienceWorks museum.
